Summary: | Rencently, fractal analysis has been applied to the characterization of particle shape, but there are some problems in obtaining a fractal dimension of a particles projected shape when using an image analyzer. This is because an image analyzer usually does not have a software for fractal analysis, and it is not easy to make a computer code for fractal analysis. Thus, the perimeter-area method for the quantitative fractal analysis of particle projected shape was proposed. The method requires only the perimeter and the projected area data of each particle in a sample powder. Using the method, the average fractal dimension of a powder can be obtained by an image analyzer with no add-on software. The relationship between the fractal dimension using the perimeter-area method, and that using the divider method essentially gives a straight line. The result shows that the perimeter-area method can be used instead of the divider method to obtain the fractal dimension of a particle's projected shape. |
