Summary:Although an intra-articular ganglion of the knee is found frequently in fibrous tissues of the meniscus, a ganglion of the posterior cruciate ligament is very rarely reported. A patient, 69 year-old man, was admitted to our hospital with complaints of knee pain and restriction of knee motion. Radiologically the typical findings of bilatral knee osteoarthritis. Were seen, on physical examination and arthrogram, there were no signs or findings to suspect an intraarticular ganglion. At arthrotomy, we found unexpectedly, a large 10mm by 15mm, redish-brown cystic mass in the intercondylar notch. Microscopic examination revealed the typical structure of a ganglion surrounded by a thick wall with concentric layers of flatcelled fibrous tissue and without an endothelial cell lining.
