Summary:Psychogenic disorders in pediatric ophthalmology include disturbance of visual acuity, abnormal visual field, abnormal color vision, tic and so on. Among these disorders, disturbance of visual acuity is most frequently observed and recently is increasing in number. Harrington reported that the psychogenic amblyopia was caused by the conversion symptom in the ocular organ. However, recently there are many patients who have not psychological problems. They do not recognize their visual disturbances by themselves but they cannot see well only when visual acuity is examined. This type of visual acuity disturbance is explained that it may be transient phenomenon and be caused by ophthalmological and psychological fragility in developmental stage especially in this age group. In this paper, two typical cases in our Keio University Hospital will be presented and epidemiologic study, clinical symptom, diagosis and treatment in psychogenic disturbance of visual acuity will be discussed.
