Inhibition of leukotriene B4 formation in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes by halothane

The effect of halothane (2-bromo-2-chloro-1, 1, 1-trifluoroethane), an inhalation anesthetic, on the formation of leukotriene B4 (LTB4) was studied in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes stimulated with calcium ionophore A23187. Halothane inhibited the formation of LTB4 in a dose-dependent manner and...

Summary:The effect of halothane (2-bromo-2-chloro-1, 1, 1-trifluoroethane), an inhalation anesthetic, on the formation of leukotriene B4 (LTB4) was studied in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes stimulated with calcium ionophore A23187. Halothane inhibited the formation of LTB4 in a dose-dependent manner and the inhibition was restored by the removal of halothane.
