| Abstract | A60-year-old man, who suffered from advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and was treated with transcatheter arterial embolization therapy (TAE), noticed numbness of the chin. The sensory disturbance was prominent and the area of numbness was matched by innervation of the mental nerve. There was no evidence of metastasis to the submandibular bone and the cerebro-meningeal system, The clinical diagnosis arrived at was numb chin syndrome. After he was administered vitamin B-12 and diazepam, the condition improved. Isolated mental neuropathy has been known as numb chin syndrome, most cases of which were reported to accompany advanced malignant diseases. Though numb chin syndrome with HCC has been very rare, it is worthy of note that this syndrome is a remote effect of HCC. |
