Summary:Tetraarylethynyltetracenes, viewed as novel π‐extended rubrene derivatives, can be synthesized by aryne cycloaddition by using isobenzofuran as a trapping agent. The new π‐extended derivatives, thus obtained, adopt a planar conformation in the tetracene core and show the distorted structure to reduce steric repulsion due to the existence of the substituents at the peri‐positions. Unexpected reactivities of epoxytetracene and its aromatized product inherent in these sterically crowded structures are also revealed. More information can be found in the Communication by T. Hamura et al. on page 14034.
