A Preliminary Investigation on Carbon and Oxygen Isotopes of CO2 Fluid Inclusions in Ultramafic Xenoliths of the Cenozoic Basalts in Eastern China

Summary:As a form of carbon, COt2 has been paid close attention to by geochemists who investigate features of fluids in the upper mantle or lower crust, since Dr. E. Roedderfound primary CO2 inclusions in mantle minerals. CO2 inclusions heterogeneously occur in ultramafic xenoliths from volcanic rocks, and CO2 inclusion.fluids are almostly composed of pure COt2. In garnet lherzolite of Xilong of Zhejiang Province, for example, the early-stage formed CO2 inclusions are mostly composed of pure CO2, but the late-stage CO2 inclusions are composed mainly of CO2, and a little amount of H2O, CO, CH4, H2, SO2, H2S, etc.. The COt2-rich mantle fluids play an important role in geological processes operating in the mantle,so a stable isotopic investigation on CO2 inclusions in the mantle xenoliths will contribute to understanding of origin and evolution of the mantle
