The Royal College of Child Health (RCPCH) and UK Child Health Research Collaboration (UKCHRC) 6 , National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network Children 7 and the number of networks developing around the UK such as Paediatric Emergency Research in the United Kingdom and Ireland (PERUKI) 8 and General and Adolescent Paediatric Research collaboration of UK and Ireland (GAPRUKI) 9 need a coordinated and integrated approach to evaluate health service delivery. Paediatricians could use current tool kits of quality improvement measures, for example, the RCPCH revised 'Facing the Future standards for acute general paediatric services' and 'Facing the Future together for child health', 10 NHS workforce data, 11 The National Atlas of Variation and the 'Right care' methodology, 12 Quality watch 13 or local clinical audit data.
