This edited book finds its origin in a series of Bayesian conferences, the "Bayes2000" meetings, started by the third editor in 2010. The aim of these meetings is to promote the use of applied Bayesian biostatistics in life sciences, pharmaceutical research & development and public health policies. The Bayes2000 meetings have been organized so far primarily in western Europe, namely 2010 (Braine l'Alleud, Belgium), 2011 (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium), 2012 (Aachen, Germany), 2013 (Rotterdam, The Netherlands), 2014 (London, UK), 2015 (Basel, Switzerland), 2016 (Leuven, Belgium), 2017 (Albacete, Spain), 2018 (Cambridge, UK) and 2019 (Lyon, France). At all these meetings exchange between industry, regulatory agencies and academics was promoted and established.
