Spray withAmistar (SOLA 2009-0443), Bumper 250EC (SOLA 2009-0707), Systhane 20EW or Signum (SOLA 2009-1 842) on non-edible plants to reduce the damaging effects of this disease.
Phygelius Small grey insects with a white head and two dark spots on the back can sometimes be seen feeding on the foliage and flowers of Phygelius. It is the flgwort weevil and might also be found on plants such as Buddleja, Verbascum, Digitalis, Penstemon and Mimulus. The slug-like larvae usually feed on the topside of the leaf surface, creating a skeleton. Control adults and larvae with blfenthrln, Decis or Toppel 1 0OEC. If you are using predators, then consider Chess WG (SOLA 2008-2834).
Whitefly With predators, add Chess WG (SOLA 2008-2834), Majestik, Nemolt (SOtA 2010-2131), Mycotal, Naturalls-L, Oberon (SOLA 2004-1 718), Savona and SB Plant Invigoratortoyour IPM programme. Mycotal and Naturalis-L are useful products especially in humidity levels greater than 80 per cent under protection. In non-IPM systems, apply Decis, Gazelle or Toppel 1 0OEC. Couraze, Exempter or lmidasect 5GR granules In growing media for non-edibles.
Field planning The potato cyst nematode (PCN) directive (22007/33/ EC) that came Into force this year on 1 July not only affects seed potato producers but any growers using old or new potato land. Landowners renting their land for the production of planting material of a PCN host or plants likely to be grown In rotation with potatoes come within the scope of the directive. Confirm whether any fields you rent are subject to PCN regulations and check whether they are classified "clean".
Tortrlx moths Toppel 1 0OEC or Decís (non-IPM) are very effective and provide persistent control on caterpillars for around 10 days. Include Conserve, Dimilin Flo, Insegar WG, Majestik, Nemolt (SOLA 20072 1 20) and Runner (SOLA 2008-2903) in your ornamentals control programme - these products are generally predator-friendly. Use Dipel DF on herbs (SOLAs required). Adda wetting agent to get good penetration of the leaf rolls.
