Abstract Jeju Island has developed and spread mountainous wetlands that are naturally filled with water on a terrain composed of volcanic ash and lava deposits. This study was conducted to understand the annual changes in the flora of the Dongbaekdongsan wetland in Jeju, and to formulate an efficient management plan for the wetland protection area. Field surveys were conducted seasonally in 2012, 2017, and 2023. The drought outbreak in the wetland and the opening of a heavy equipment access road to remove Pine wilt disease in 2017 caused a slight decrease in the vascular flora, but by 2023 the habitat was stable and the number of species gradually increased. The resultant vascular flora consisted of 400 taxa in 109 families, 286 genera, 364 species, 9 subspecies, 24 varieties, and 3 varieties. Wetland plant species diversity increased from 2017 to 2023 with 31 new taxa of wetland plants, including Potamogeton distinctus, Caldesia pamassifolia, and others, as growing conditions gradually improved due to the formation of various water pools in the wetlands. The Dongabaekdongsan wetland is facing the risk of damage to the habitats of Jeju's endemic plants with high conservation value, such as Mankyua chejuensis, Daphne jejudoensis and a decline in the species diversity of the genus due to human disturbance caused by the influx of tourists and the spread of annual and Theorophytes (Th) and other organisms that disturb the ecosystem. Therefore, it is necessary to manage the wetland ecosystem in a healthy manner by minimizing trampling pressure in the wetland through the blocking of non-exploration paths in the Dongbaekdongsan wetland in Jeju and the removal of ecosystem-disturbing organisms.
