Summary: | This study investigates the effects of slot number and skip ratio on the spray characteristics of a liquid pintle injector. Cold-flow tests and CFD analysis were conducted to measure spray angle and visualize internal flow structures. Tests were performed with pintle tips having 8, 12, and 16 radial slots and skip ratios of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5. The results showed that the spray angle decreased significantly as the number of slots increased, while the effect of skip ratio was relatively limited, with a slight increase observed at a skip ratio of 1.5. Analysis of the discharge coefficients revealed that the number of slots affected both the radial discharge coefficient and the spray angle, but had little influence on the axial discharge coefficient. In contrast, skip ratio influenced both axial and radial discharge coefficients, while its impact on spray angle remained relatively minor. CFD analysis showed that the aspect ratio, defined by the slot geometry, had an effect on the spray angle by altering the axial velocity distribution near the injector centerline. These findings provide a useful basis for geometric optimization of pintle injectors to improve spray performance. |
