헤테로토피아적 장소에 나타난 문화적 기억과 작품연구 -미아리고개와 주변 공간을 중심으로

본 연구는 과거 미아리고개라는 장소가 오늘날 어떻게 이질적 공간으로 배척되고 있었는지를 미셸 푸코의 헤테로토피아라는 관점에서 분석해보고, 오늘날 그 터의 의미와 집단의 장소 기억이 변화된 양상을 살펴보기 위함이다. 이를 위해 미아리고개와 주변 공간들에서 영감 받은 순수미술작가들의 작품을 알라이다 아스만이 말한 문화적 기억 관점에서 분석하였다. 특히 본 연구에서 중점적으로 다룬 공간은 미아리 공동묘지, 미아리 점성촌, 그리고 미아리 고가 하부공간에 형성된 복합문화예술공간 미인도이다. 위 공간들에서 영감 받은 작품과 실제 미인도에서 진행된 기획전시 작품을 토대로 미아리고개와 주변 공간이 오늘날 새롭게 정립하고 있는 문화적 기억을 환기하였다. 그리고 이러한 작품분석을 통해서 미아리고개라는 헤테로토피아적 장소가 오늘날 더는 타자화된 공간이 아닌, 생동감 있는 공간이자 다양한 실험의 장으로 재생되고 있음을 확인하였다. 이런 점에서 미아리고개와 주변 공간에서 실시하는 다양한 프로젝트와 작업은 오늘날 대중에게 다양한 문화적 기억을 심어준다는 점에서 과거와 현재를 잇는 연결 다리의 역할을 수행하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 결과적으로 본 연구는 오늘날 무분별하게 상실되어가는 장소 기억에 대한 기록과 더불어 상징적인 장소들을 새로운 매체를 통해 기억하는 작업의 중요성을 강조하는 것에 궁극적인 목적을 두고 있다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 우리가 살아가는 장소들과 그 장소가 가진 기억의 가치를 중요하게 생각해볼 수 있게 하는 계기가 되길 기대한다. This study aims to analyze how the site, “Miarigogae” was excluded as a heterogeneous space in the past from the perspective of Michel Foucault’s heterotopia and to examine today’s meaning of the site and the change aspect of the collective memory on the site. To this end, the works of pure artists inspired by Miarigogae and the surrounding area were analyzed from the cultural memory point of view mentioned by Aleida Assmann. The main areas examined in this study were Miari Cemetery, Miari Astrological Village, and Art Space Meindo formed in the lower area of the Miari Overpass. The cultural memory that is being newly established nowadays through Miarigogae and the surrounding area was aroused based on the works aspired by the abovementioned areas and the works planned and exhibited in Meindo. In this regard, it can be seen that the various projects and works carried out in the surrounding space of Miarigogae as a bridge between the past and the present in that they provide diverse cultural memories to the public today. Through the analysis of the works, it was confirmed that Miarigogae, a heterotopic site, has been restored as an exuberant space and a variety of experimental ground, rather than as the otherized space. Consequently, this study is meaningful in that the importance of recording the memory of the sites being lost indifferently and the remembering work of the symbolic places through new media is emphasized. Therefore, this study will provide an opportunity for us to consider the places we live in and the value of our memories.
