Abstract [緒言] 急速な都市化・人工化により, 現代人は日常生活において常にストレス状態に置かれるようになった. Miyazakiらは, 「人はヒトになって500万年が経過し, その99.99%以上を自然環境下で過ごしてきた. そのため, 我々は自然環境と対応した生理機能を持ち, 現在の人工環境に適応できず, 常に緊張を強いられるストレス状態にある.」と述べている. ここ数年, 生理計測技術の急速な進歩に伴い, 生理指標を用いた科学的データが蓄積されつつあり, 森林環境がもたらす生理的リラックス効果に関して, 脳前頭前野活動, 脈拍数, 血圧, 心拍変動性, 唾液中コルチゾール濃度, NK (Natural Killer)細胞活性等の指標を用いて報告されている. これらの知見を元に, 森林セラピーの生理的リラックス効果に関する総説が提出されており, Parkらは, 日本国内35か所の森林において, 420名の被験者を使った実験の結果, 15分間座って森林の景色を眺めるという森林セラピーによってストレス状態が緩和され, 生理的リラックス効果がもたらされることを紹介している.
