Summary:A rare case of idiopathic dilatation of the pulmonary artery with pulmonary regurgi-tation is presented. A 71-year-old female was admitted for evaluation of a cardiac mur-mur. The chest roentgenogram showed cardiac enlargement. The electrocardiogram revealed left axis deviation. There was a grade 2, low-pitched, musical, diastolic mur-mur over the 2nd left parasternal intercostal space. Fine diastolic fluttering of the pul-monary valve and turbulent diasolic flow in the right ventricular outflow tract were de-tected by two-dimensional echocardiography or Doppler ultrasound. Cardiac catheter-ization of the right side of the heart revealed normal pressure and cardiac output. A pulmonary arteriogram demonstrated dilatation of the main pulmonary artery and moderate pulmonary regurgitation.
