Summary:The subject of my deliberation: improvement of engineering, requires defining following terms: science and technology. Science answers the question: why a determined problem takes place? It searches the solution to this problem; it tries to explain and describe it. Technology focuses on questions, like: how to solve the problem? Or even: how to implement the problem’s solution into practice? In parallel to the distinction between science and technology; there exist two term that relate to those areas: theoretical science and practical science. The idea of practical science (engineering) reflects a specific complex that technology, as imperfect knowledge, has in face of “pure science” and its scientific aspirations. Determined imperfect knowledge constitutes the basis for such statement. Like: science deals with knowledge about, what already exists and technology creates things that don’t exist yet. However, in practice science and technology do often cooperate on the same field. Science enters the process of practical use of own inventions – and so it enters the area of technology. The process of technological progress enables technology to discover new phenomena, for which it finds solutions – and so it automatically becomes equal with science. However, the character of scientific and engineering research is different than the profile of theoretical study. Scientific research in the range of technology focus on creating methods for solving a problem that results from an already discovered phenomenon, which is however too complicated to find an accurate solution for its questions. Engineering science often use quasi-empirical methods, which are not applied in the science in its classical interpretation. Terms: engineering and technology often function as synonyms. In old French the word: engineer was equivocal with the term: war machinery constructor. In turn, the English word engineering ostensibly doesn’t come from engine, but from ingenious; its genesis is Latin – from words: ingeniosus, which was connected with human genius.
