AbstractList | The trend towards the use of wastes in the cement industry or the utilisation of cement for handling wastes has led to the presence of several transition element compounds in the clinker and/or in the hydrated cement. Hydration processes in cements made from raw mixes containing 2 wt% transition element oxides were studied. The oxides used were ZrO2, V2O5, Ni2O3, CuO, Co2O3, MnO, Cr2O3, TiO2, MoO3, and ZnO. The cement pastes were cured in water for 24 h, 48 h, 7 days and 28 days. Hydration rate and products were studied by XRD, DSC and TGA. It was shown that the added oxides generally provoke a retardation of the hydration reactions. The effect is stronger during the first 2 days and becomes negligible at 28 days.
