Summary: | This collection amply demonstrates the fruitfulness of Wes Pue's exploration of professionalism and professionalisation, legal education and the political roles of law and lawyers over the past thirty years. With his Oxford undergraduate degrees in geography and law, postgraduate legal qualifications from Alberta and York, and abiding interests in history, politics and social theory, Wes Pue embodies interdisciplinarity. Such intellectual span is most uncommon. According to W. K. (Sir Keith) Hancock, the greatest historian Australia has yet produced, 'span' ranks with 'attachment' and 'justice' as a defining attribute of first-class historical writing. By the same token, it would be impossible for anyone familiar with Pue's extensive body of scholarly publications to doubt his commitment to understanding his subject through close scrutiny of the sources, or his determination to resist easy answers which deal unjustly with those no longer able to defend their own actions and motives. |
