Summary:This paper analyzes the problems of and achievements in rapeseed (Brassica napus L. var. oleifera) breeding directed at the change of the fatty acid composition in seed oil using the approaches of traditional selection and genetic engineering. It is noted that the combination of biotechnological developments and methods of classical breeding is optimal for the further improvement of the composition of rapeseed oil.
