Summary:Shop layout and aisle routing in factories, equipment layout and piping in chemical plants and machine or cell layout and AGV routing in FMS are important problems to be solved having been remained in the research area of facilities planning. In this paper, we propose an optimization method aiming simultaneous floor and aisle planning based on Simulated Annealing (SA). This method permits us to decide optimal block placement without any overlap between blocks, optimal I/O ports of blocks and optimal aisle routing, subject to a constraint of a placement region. Also, we propose a modified maze routing (M.M.R.) for planning aisles or routing AGVs. M. M. R. can penalize excess crossings of paths, excess traffic density and excess number of corners. Finally, we clarify the effectiveness of this method, based on numerical experiments.
