Home monitoring of temperature has helped in the early diagnosis of foot ulcers in diabetic subjects. It is observed that the cost of a camera increases with the resolution, due to the enhancements made in the computation power, computer-based algorithms, and processing software. A need for an inexpensive, portable and easily usable self-monitoring tool for frequent examination and communication was achieved by developing this low-cost thermal imaging system.
In this work, a low-cost, light-weight, and user-friendly thermal camera has been developed that can be used as a preliminary diagnostic tool for a wide range of applications such as skin cancer detection, monitoring thyroid disorders, identifying diabetic foot ulcers and fever screening. The device can be easily accessible and affordable to local clinics and homes, thereby making thermal imaging as a viable option for detection of abnormalities in temperature distribution over the human body in a non-contact and pain-free manner. |
