Summary:Gastric carcinosarcoma is rare and very few cases differentiating toward specific nonepithelical tissue have been reported. Gastric carcinosarcoma has malignant potensial. We report the case of 53-year-old woman with hematemesis. A type 1 tumor was detected in the body of the stomach, and the patient was diagnosed with well-differentiated adenocarcinoma on the basis of endoscopic biopsy results. Therefore, we performed laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy. Histological analysis showed that the tumor was composed of carcinomatous and sarcomatous components. The sarcomatous components were immunohistochemically stained using desmin and vimentin. There is no established chemotherapeutic regimen for treating patients with this disease; therefore we did not administer adjuvant chemotherapy. The patient is alive and has not shown recurrence for 5 years after the operation.
