Abstract This study clarifies same facts by carrying out the field work to estimate the capacity of following down water by the established route. The established route above mentioned consists of the Tamagawa city water system waterways network that was built in Musashino tableland area, Tokyo in the Edo era and the uppermost stream of the rivers that makes this tableland the origin and the location and structure by which the water of the waterways can flow down easily. As a result of survey on the water running route, it has been clarified that, out of 16 waterways, the subjects survey, 9 waterways are able to run the water, naturally flowing down, at such a short distance as 1 to 2 km to greater part of rivers (this applies to 22 out of 24 rivers, the subjects of survey). Also the matter that has been made clear by the survey of the quantity of water flow, the waterrun capacity is figured out by each river that can be connected. Through the research based on the survey on both fields, the requirement for the waterways in the tableland area and network system of the rivers has been clarified
